Norwalk blanks Trumbull Eagles
NORWALK — Head coach Chris Laughton returned to the sidelines after a two-game absence for the birth of his son, Grayson, and the Bears gave him another “nice gift,” as Laughton put it, in the form of the FCIAC victory over the Golden Eagles on Saturday at Sam Testa Field.
Norwalk improved to 5-0 behind goals from Michal Nowicki, assisted by Santiago Muriel, 2:50 into the game, Santiago in the 26th minute off a pass from Alejandro Rivera, and Nacho Navarro unassisted in the 59th minute.
Trumbull (3- 1) got seven saves from goalkeeper Nick Weinstein, while Norwalk goalie Svet Kozak stopped three shots to record the shutout win.
“I missed two games, but Kurt Simonsen was the head coach in my place, and the team was in good hands,” Laughton said. “We have Westhill (in Stamford) on Tuesday, and they’re 3-1 (going into Saturday’s action). They’re always tough, so it should be a good game.”
