Bears roll to victory over Wave
DARIEN — Anthony Fraioli scored two goals and assisted on another while Mike Fraioli scored once and added three assists to lift the Norwalk High boys soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Darien in a steady downpour Tuesday on the turf at Darien.
Anthony Fraioli now has 20 goals on the season.
Norwalk, which finished with a 14-0 advantage in shots, improved to 11-1-2 overall and all but assured itself a spot in the FCIAC playoffs. The Bears will face New Canaan Thursday at 3:45 p.m. at Testa Field in a possible playoff preview before completing the regular season against Bassick Monday.
Norwalk needs one point to make the four-team field for the FCIAC playoffs, which are scheduled to begin Nov. 2 at Fairfield Ludlowe. The finals are set for Nov. 4, also at Ludlowe.
“Winning today helps,” Norwalk head coach Kurt Simonsen said. “It helps take some of the pressure off knowing Trumbull has been winning and closing ground. It feels good that we can control our own destiny.”
Manny Arteaga scored twice for Norwalk while Ron Machado scored once and Connor Prescott added one assist.
Norwalk goalkeeper Mike Surace didn’t need to make a save to post the shutout victory. Darien dropped to 2-11-1 overall.
