Torrid Torres lifts Norwalk boys soccer

FAIRFIELD — Andres Torres continued his torrid scoring pace, scoring a second- half goal to lift the Norwalk High boys soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Fairfield Ludlowe Thursday afternoon at Ludlowe.

Torres, who has six goals already this season, booted the ball from 20 yards out and it deflected off a Ludlowe defender into the goal in the 58th minute. The Bears improved to 3-1 record after suffering their first loss to Ridgefield, 4-3, Tuesday.

“We needed this win after a tough loss against Ridgefield,” Norwalk coach Chris Laughton said. “We’re definitely moving in the right direction.”

Laughton also praised the play of his defense, including his back four of Mike LePoutre, Tyler Collins, Robert Geitz and Danny Quintero. Alex Hurd notched his first shutout of the season and finished with five saves.

Ludlowe had more corner kicks, 3-1, but Norwalk had the edge in shots, 7-6. The Bears host Trumbull in a key FCIAC encounter Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
